Powwow @ 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm – The public is welcome!

FVCC’s Montana American Indian Scholars (MAIS) and TRIO programs are hosting a celebration of Native American Culture on April 28 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. in the Arts and Technology building on the Kalispell campus. Free and open to the community, the event will feature dancing, drumming and storytelling by members of The Spirit of the Buffalo from Browning. Concessions will be available for purchase.

MAIS is a new program from the Montana Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education that aims to advance support for American Indian students on Montana college campuses by promoting cultural awareness and creating leadership opportunities through mentoring.

Prior to the community celebration, Native American students from around Montana will have the opportunity to tour the FVCC campus and learn about the various academic and student support services available.

“Our goal with this event is to create a welcoming environment at FVCC for Native American students and for all those interested in Native American culture,” said FVCC Academic Advisor Leslie Greene.

A raffle drawing for various prizes, including custom-forged cutlery, a flute, and an Alfred Moran painting, will be held at the event with all proceeds supporting scholarships for Native American students. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event and at various Columbia Falls and Whitefish locations, including O’Brien’s Liquor and Wine, Perfect Cuts, Hanson’s Hardware, and Insignia Custom Embroidery.
